Baliage

Baliage: From the French word meaning to paint.  Baliage is a verb, not a noun.  It’s a technique used to paint highlights into the hair, thinner and finer at the root,  getting stronger and bolder toward the ends.  Baliage makes growing out highlights gentler, no lines, no roots.  A great look!

Dry Spell

Whether it’s in the salon or at home it’s important that clients adjust their hair care for each season.
As we approach the middle of winter, you may notice your hair is mimicking the weather.  Dry, parched, dull and lifeless.  Moisture intense treatments are the perfect way to greet winter.  A ten minute treatment of Moroccan Oil Treatment or Moroccan Oil Glimmer Shine Spray, instantly restores curls and life to lack luster hair.  Another great treatment that provides immediate results is Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Mask, coupled with Moroccan Oil Treatment and left on your overnight.  After using, your hair is transformed into the soft pliable locks you only use to dream about.  This treatment can be done at home weakly.  Moroccan Oil Mask Treatment 15% off the month of February.

What Hair Style Should I Choose for My Wedding Day?

Not sure if you should wear your hair up, down, curly or straight?  We offer you guidelines to help you.

What’s the level of formality?
A laid-back occasion taking place outdoors or before a small gathering of guests calls for a relaxed style.  Try loose waves or a low bun with tendrils hanging down.  A formal sit-down dinner requires a more polished look like an up-do or a sleek straight style.
How Big is Your Dress?
The style, size and scale of your dress are defining factors for your hair.  A loose fishtail braid complements a casual gown, while a shiny half up / half down paired with an elaborate tiara is right for a lavish ball gown.

What’s the Weather?
Consider the environmental factors on your big day.  Certain conditions like heat and humidity may cause frizz, so skip the sleek blow-out.  A cold windy day may require more hold and extra pins to make it a tight up-do, or half up/half down do.

Solar Oil

Solar Oil by CND is a nail and cuticle conditioner.  Solar oil is to your nails like conditioner is to your hair.  It is a great product to use to help keep your finer nails and toe nails healthy.  Solar Oil is the smallest molecularly structured oil that is able to penetrate the natural nail, nail polish, gel polish, acrylic and gel nails.  It helps to keep your nails hydrated and flexible and will also conditions your cuticles. Solar Oil will help to prolong your manicure and keep it looking fresh.  We recommend our clients to use it every day 3-4 times a day.  You can’t over use it.  This is a product you don’t want to be without.

Hair Tips: 12/17/12

Fix It
Not any one product line can solve all clients’ hair challenges. One size fits all in hair care lines just doesn’t work.  Hair is made up of 80% Keratin and 20% moisture.  Know what is missing and finaly the correct product enforces the good work your stylist is doing.
Color Conserving
Color used in hair color process strips the hair of moisture and weakens the follicle.  We recommend sulfate and alcohol free products with heat and UV protection to preserve color and restore hair’s condition.  All of our hair care  lines at Sassy are heat resistant, sulfate free and my of our styling products are alcohol free.
Body Builders
Fine hair retains a lot of moisture causing it to look flat and feel limp.  These type of clients can skip daily conditioning.  Instead a weekly protein treatment will help build strength into weak ends.

Pony Tales

The ponytail is back, and it’s better than ever! It is becoming a go-to style for the fashion elite! On runways for the Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Week, hairdressers got creative and updated the basic pony in many ways. High, low, textures, neat, shiny and mate…there is a pony for everyone!

10 Myths about Hair

1. You must shampoo daily.

Tips for Autumn

The word for color is DRAMA. Hair color is very dramatic with very rich jewel tones or cool colors. Very dark, smokey hair is weaved and foiled with strands of ruby, wine, or vivd blue! These strands can be pre-bleached or we can our extensions to get the same effect. This is a fun way to change for the fall season and can be easily changed for spring.
Bold blondes are also ranking high for color requests. Think Clare Danes and Heidi Klum!
Clothing is also loaded with color. Bright to electric and high contrast. Fashion designers are featuring combinations of very vivid blue coupled with black.
The beginning of Fall means the end of Summer. This also means the worst hair of the year! Heat mineral deposits, and chlorine thrash your tresses!
We can recommend the proper products to get your hair back in shape. Our Moroccan oil mask is a wonderful deep conditioning treatment. We also have treatments to remove chlorine from hair. Our Label M deep cleansing shampoo also removes residue from hair.

Beach Wedding Hair

Choosing the right wedding hairstyle for your beach wedding is very important. It can be time consuming and very frustrating.
Beach wedding hairstyles should be relaxed, cool, sexy and modern!
There are plenty of styles to choose from regardless of your hair length. A bride-to-be can opt for an elegant look, a wavy beach style or even braids and buns. Keep in mind that beaches get windy, so be mindful to choose a hairstyle that doesn’t require touching up!
A consultation with our experienced stylist is crucial to finding the right hairstyle to accompany your head piece ( tiara, veil etc.).  This makes it easier to compliment your gown and of course your face shape.
Every bride wants to look her best and we will make sure your vision will be achieved!

Myths about UV lamps used for Nail Services

It has been brought to my attention quite a few times over the past three years, since gel polish has quickly become the newest and coolest nail trend, the big safety question concerning the UV rays emitted from the lamp that cures the gel or gel polish.
As a professional, it is my duty to do the research and educate myself to keep myself as well as my clients safe. Here are my findings:

To verify the facts, they tested the leading UV nail lamps to determine how much UV-A and UV-B they emit and then compared that to natural sunlight. They concluded that the dermatologists’ report, “Occurrence of Non-melanoma Skin Cancers on the Hands After UV Nail Light Exposure,” overestimated the exposure of the client skin to UV light emitted from UV nail lamps and improperly characterized the effect of these lamps on the hand. In fact, they noted, clients’ hands are likely to be exposed to more UV light while driving their cars, than they will receive from UV gel nail services.

I have attached the article as to where I obtained my research, that I felt spoke in lay men’s terms. The most important thing is to keep up on the safety of current trends, and here at Sassy, we pride ourselves on staying current, constantly educating ourselves as well as our clients, while maintaining professional and happy atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

Fall Preview

When a client asks me “What’s new in hair”?   This is a clear indication they want a change!
Change can be subtle or dramatic. What’s new is not nearly as important as “will what’s new look good on me”?
A small change, such as adding a side swept fringe to long hair can be huge to a client. The same can be said for adding brighter color around the face. This can perk up any shade of brunette.
Being aware of facial shapes and body type is so much more important than “what’s in” when styling a clients hair.
Be aware of “what’s in”, but being aware of the client as an individual is just as important!

Keratin Hair Treatments

Keratin Hair Treatments are the newest trends in defrizzing and smoothing hair.

Any hair type can have a keratin treatment if your are looking for your hair to be smoother, silkier, straighter, shinier, easier and faster to blow dry! Your hair can be close to maintenance free!

There has been lots of buzz about the safety of these treatments. Recently, chemists have effectively cut down the odor and the keratin products we use have under the OSHA regulation of formaldehyde. (without a small amount of formaldehyde no smoothing is achieved).

Keratin works best of those of us with coarse, frizzy and unmanageable hair. Our blow dry time is cut in half and we use little or no flat ironing. We consider these treatments a “miracle”!
At Sassy we have 2 choices of Keratin treatments. Keratin Express is our “semi-permanent” treatment. This takes about an hour for the service and lasts about 6 six weeks. The hair can be shampooed after 24 hours. Pricing starts at $75.00.
Keratin wears off the hair gradually and can be done again safely after 4-6 weeks. Keratin Express offers the same great results as our more “permanent” Coppola Keratin treatment at a fraction of the cost.

Our Coppola Keratin Treatment is a treatment that lasts 3-4 months! This treatment takes about 2-3 hours for the salon service. You cannot shampoo for 72 hours. Pricing starts $250.00.

Either of our Keratin Treatments can be done on color-treated or chemically treated hair. Both of these treatments require sulfate-free shampoos. We will recommend the correct products for longevity of your smoothing treatment.

For those of us who have these Keratin treatments , we tend to think of them a “life-changing”, especially living in Florida!
