Balayage is a French word meaning to sweep or to paint. It allows for a sun-kissed natural looking hair colour – similar to what nature gives us as children – with softer, less noticeable regrowth lines. The principal idea being less is more when creating soft, natural looks.
It’s a skilled technique that hasn’t been widely taught until recently. Now it’s becoming better known because all the models and A-listers are wearing it. Clients are seeing it on the catwalks and red carpets and want to get that finish rather than the uniform highlights that foils give.
To give you some insight into the hair extension industry, it is worth knowing that most hair extensions originate from India, which is not only inexpensive hair, but unfortunately all the hair is black. So, in order to produce lighter colors, the hair has to be repeatedly bleached. However, it doesn’t matter how gentle this bleaching process is, it still strips the hair, thus damaging the integrity of the extension and that is why you only can get a one-time use out of the extension.
The suppliers refer to the tipping as Keratin or Protein bonds, but the truth is, it is just a polite way of saying glue. So you glue in the hair and 3-4 months later you are standing for hours (a typical head will take between 4-7 hours) removing the old extensions (using an acetone based solvent- which can cause irritation to the client’s scalp, etc.) to throw them away and re-glue in a whole new set, which you then have to cut and style again.

Box Color VS Professional Salon Hair Color
How many of you walk into your local Drug Store and look at the beautiful celebrities on the box of Box Color and say “That’s how I want my hair to look like!” Pay the $8.00-$12.00 for the color you want and go home put it on and it turns out to be a disaster. Trust me, these celebrities or models are not using box color. They are going to a salon and having a professional formulate and apply their color.
Professional Stylists create a formula for each client. What might work for you, will not achieve the same results for someone else. Stylists must consider several factors in order to give you the desired result.
Skin Tone – Texture –Density –Porosity –Color –Length – Most Important, Underlying Pigment
Continuous use of Box Color will eventually turn your hair to straw. Most people who use Box Color apply it from the root to the ends resulting in two different colors with the ends being too dark or too blonde. Styling becomes more difficult and frizzing becomes out of control. This incorrect application will eventually also cause hair to break. Professional Colorists use a brush to apply color. They apply it from the regrowth to the demarcation line.
Like everything else, “You Get What You Pay For”. Using Box Color that cost $8-$12 and result in damaged hair will end up costing you $200-$300 for corrective color. Not to mention taking 3-4 hours out of your day.
